Nicolas Jackson 'evades FA ban for Nathan Patterson incident'

The Football Association is reportedly not going to punish Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson for appearing to grab the throat of Everton’s Nathan Patterson after his team’s 2-0 defeat on Sunday.

Jackson was dropped to the substitutes’ bench for the Premier League match at Goodison Park and came on for the final 23 minutes plus stoppage time, but he was unable to help the Blues avoid defeat on Merseyside.

Everton won the game thanks to second-half goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin, condemning Mauricio Pochettino’s side to their seventh league defeat of the season.

After the final whistle, Jackson was involved in a heated exchange with several Everton players, and he was pictured with his left hand around Patterson’s neck before being dragged off the pitch by Pochettino.

The FA has assured multiple media outlets, such as The Athletic, that match officials looked into the Jackson incident at the time. However, that there will be no more disciplinary action taken against the striker.

Nicolas Jackson avoided being ‘BANNED’

Jackson is thus available to play for Chelsea in their next Premier League match against Sheffield United on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

Casemiro and Rodri of Manchester United and Manchester City, respectively, were both sent off in Premier League games earlier this year for similar offenses.

Casemiro was shown a straight red card in the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in March for putting his hands on Will Hughes’ neck, and the Brazilian was given a three-match ban for violent conduct.

Rodri, meanwhile, was suspended for three games after being sent off in the second half of Man City’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in September for grabbing Morgan Gibbs-White’s neck with both hands.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer for a reported £32 million, and he has had a mixed start to life in West London, scoring six goals in 15 Premier League games while receiving a league-high seven yellow cards; only West Ham United’s Edson Alvarez has received as many.

The majority of Jackson’s bookings have been for dissent, and Pochettino has previously warned the Senegal international that if he wants to avoid putting Chelsea in a “very difficult situation,” he must stop picking up “cheap yellow cards.”

Chelsea’s discipline has been a source of concern for Pochettino all season, with only Sheffield United (49) receiving more yellow cards than the Blues in 2023-24, and only Liverpool (four) receiving more red cards than the West Londoners (three).
