Nottingham Forest have reportedly’reached an agreement’ to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner, with the Gunners on the verge of bringing in a replacement immediately.
Keylor Navas was Steve Cooper’s first-choice shot-stopper from January onwards last season, but he looks certain to stay at PSG when his loan spell ended.
Dean Henderson, who spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, has been linked with a permanent move to City Ground. Cooper, on the other hand, appears to have decided to explore a move for Turner instead.
Last summer, the Gunners signed the US international from MLS side New England Revolution. Turner appeared in seven games for Arsenal in all competitions last season, keeping three clean sheets.
Turner was below Aaron Ramsdale in the pecking order, yet he is regarded as a top player. He also has plenty of experience, having made 32 appearances for the US national team.
Turner’s move to the Tricky Trees is almost complete, according to reputed transfer journalist David Ornstein, and Arsenal are pushing to bring in Brentford’s David Raya to replace him.
Nottingham Forest to sign Arsenal Star
“Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign goalkeeper Matt Turner,” he posted on Twitter. The medical examination for the US international is slated for later today. Arsenal are attempting to complete a deal for Brentford’s David Raya.
Arsenal, as previously reported by Football365, has already made a bid of £20 million plus add-ons for Raya this summer.
Brentford turned down the deal, but it is believed that £30 million would be sufficient to win his services. Raya has one year left on his contract with the Bees and is regarded as one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League on his day.
The Spaniard appeared in every game of Brentford’s 2022/23 Premier League season. During that time, he preserved 12 clean sheets and allowed only 46 goals.
Arteta, on the other hand, has recently intimated that he is planning to bring in competition for Ramsdale.
When asked if he was ‘feeling the pressure’ because to Arsenal’s links with Raya, Arteta replied, “I hope not because competition always exists whoever it is.” That’s how it should feel.”
With Turner’s transfer to Nottingham Forest nearing completion, it will be intriguing to see if Arsenal can complete a deal for Raya before the season begins.
