Rafael Leao to sign new Contract with AC Milan

Rafael Leao will extend his contract with Milan through 2028. The new deal will pay him €7 million net per season plus a €2 million signing bonus.

Despite the buildup to Wednesday’s Derby della Madonnina Champions League semifinal, AC Milan fans can now finally celebrate the long-awaited contract extension of key player Rafael Leao. The Portuguese striker’s camp has finally agreed to a new contract extension with the Italian club until 2028.

Leao’s current contract expires in the summer of 2024. The Italian club needed to resolve the situation before the summer to avoid any possible temptation from other European clubs. AC Milan directors Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara negotiated a new contract for the player for a long time.

Leao’s new contract will last until 2028, and reports suggest he’ll earn around €7 million per season, with a new release clause included in the contract.

Leao is eager to play in the Champions League semifinals against Inter despite the injury he took last weekend against Lazio, which may force him to miss the first leg. AC Milan only needs to finalize the deal in the coming days before making the announcement.

Leao joined the Rossoneri in the summer of 2019. In 44 games this season for Milan in all competitions, he has scored 13 goals and assisted 13 other players. Since joining the Italian club, the Portuguese striker has scored 40 goals and won the Serie A title in 2021-22. He was named MVP the following season.
