Rodri | Manchester City face an injury scare with the midfielder missing Spain’s game.

Rodi has been withdrawn from Spain Squad

Manchester City have been dealt another injury scare as star midfielder Rodri was left out of Spain’s squad to face Cyprus in Euro 2024 qualifying on Thursday.

Rodri joined the Spanish national team ahead of back-to-back matches against Cyprus and Georgia after scoring and playing the full 90 minutes in City’s 4-4 Premier League draw with Chelsea last weekend.

However, Rodri was noticeably absent from Luis de la Fuente’s matchday squad for the match against Cyprus, and reports in Spain claim that the midfielder has not been risked with Euro 2024 qualification already secured.

According to COPE, the midfielder reported a ‘discomfort’ to the national team’s medical staff earlier this week and was thus left out of Thursday’s matchday squad, along with Valencia left-back Jose Gaya.

Rodri may miss the Man City Premier League clash against Liverppol

It’s unclear whether Rodri will be considered for Spain’s final Euro 2024 qualifier against Georgia on Sunday.

Man City will be hoping that Rodri has not suffered a serious injury, as he has proven to be an invaluable first-team player for Pep Guardiola’s side for some time.

Between September and October, the 27-year-old was suspended for three domestic games, and his absence was felt by the Citizens, who lost all three games against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal, and Newcastle United – the first two in the Premier League and the latter in the EFL Cup third round.

Man City’s only win this season without Rodri was a 3-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League group stage earlier this month, when the midfielder was an unused substitute.

Rodri’s injury scare follows the withdrawal of four other Citizens players from international duty earlier this month due to injury, including fellow midfielder Matheus Nunes, who left the Portugal squad on Wednesday after suffering a muscle problem in training.

Nathan Ake, who was injured in training and missed City’s draw with Chelsea, withdrew from the Netherlands squad last weekend.

Mateo Kovacic and Ederson have also been ruled out of Croatia and Brazil squads due to injury, and, like Nunes and Ake, have emerged as doubts for City’s Premier League clash with Liverpool on November 25.

Meanwhile, versatile defender John Stones will be out for “a while” after suffering a new muscle injury against Young Boys last week.

Sergio Gomez has missed Man City’s last two games due to an ankle injury and is a major doubt for the match against Liverpool, while Kevin De Bruyne recently revealed that his recovery from a serious hamstring injury is “going very well,” but the playmaker is not expected to return until at least the New Year.
