Roma announces the signing of Romelu Lukaku

For the 2023–24 season, the 30-year-old striker will reunite with former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho. Chelsea will reportedly get up to £8 million in compensation for his temporary departure.

Roma have no option or duty to extend Lukaku’s contract beyond next year. However, the Giallorossi will pay his earnings, which he has agreed to reduce in order to return to Italy.

“The welcome I’ve received from this club and its fans has excited me and given me even more motivation to give my all for my new team,” Lukaku said, according to the official Roma website.

“I felt the atmosphere of the Stadio Olimpico and the warmth of the Romanisti as an opponent.” It’s comforting to know that I’m a part of it today.

The club rejoices in announcing the acquisition of the famous Belgian forward!

“I recently had the opportunity to speak with the owners, and their ambition impressed me.” We must now work hard, be humble, and grow game by game. “I, for one, am excited to be available to my teammates both on and off the field.”

Lukaku was anticipated to return to Inter Milan on a permanent basis after his loan spell with Chelsea in 2022-23, but the Nerazzurri reportedly withdrew their interest after learning that he was also in talks with Juventus.

Inter were outraged by the disclosures, but Juve – who still have Dusan Vlahovic on their books – were unable to reach an arrangement with Chelsea, allowing Roma to go to the front of the line.

Lukaku leaped at the chance to return to Italy because he wanted to work with Mourinho, and Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto feels the 30-year-old’s presence provides the Giallorossi an extra “drive to win.”

“Knowing that Lukaku has chosen Roma can only bring us joy.” We get more experience, professionalism, and a will to win with his coming,” Pinto remarked.
