The FIFA World Cup Trophy

The World Cup is a solid gold trophy presented to the winners of the FIFA World Cup football tournament. Since the World Cup’s inception in 1930, two trophies have been used: the Jules Rimet Trophy from 1930 to 1970, and the FIFA World Cup Trophy from 1974 to the present. It is one of the most expensive sporting trophies in history, valued at $20 million.

The original trophy, Victory, was made out of lapis lazuli and stainless silver. Jules Rimet, the FIFA president, later won praise with a name change. There was a picture of Nike, the Greek goddess of triumph. Nike was portrayed as the Greek goddess of triumph. Brazil won the trophy for the first time in 1970, prompting the commissioning of a successor. In 1983, the Jules Rimet Trophy was stolen. The trophy was never discovered after that.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy debuted in 1974. It is 18 karat gold with malachite bands on the base. It stands 36.8 centimetres tall and weighs 6.175 kilograms (30,875 carats). The Stabilimento Artistico Bertoni company made the trophy in Italy. It shows two human figures supporting the Earth. France is the current holder of the trophy, having won the 2018 World Cup and will be the defending champions at the 2022 World Cup .

FIFA has established new guidelines for trophy guardianship. The winning nations and future winners, unlike the Jules Rimet Trophy, no longer have access to the original trophy. FIFA instead gives them a gold-plated bronze replica. West Germany was the first country to win the modern World Cup in 1974.
