Udinese Calcio, who currently sit seventh in Serie A, has announced the signing of 2018 World Cup winner Florian Thauvin. The Frenchman has agreed to terms with the Serie A club on a two-and-a-half year deal. Following the knee injury to Spanish striker Gerard Deulofeu, Udinese needed a winger. The former Barcelona man has undergone surgery and is unlikely to play again for the Udine-based club this season. Thauvin’s 18-month contract with Tigres of Monterrey was terminated unilaterally this month, and the local press reported that the former Marseille man was refused entry to the club’s training ground, though a mutual agreement has ostensibly been reached now.
Udinese Calcio have signed World Cup winner Florian Thauvin to a contract extension until 30 June 2025. The Frenchman is a forward with a lot of talent and class who can play anywhere on the front line.
Thauvin, who was born in Orleans on January 26, 1993, progressed through the youth ranks at Grenoble before moving on to Bastia, where he made his Ligue 1 debut. He was signed by Marseille, where he played for two years before joining Premier League club Newcastle United.
While his time in England was unsuccessful, Thauvin’s return to Marseille saw him have his most productive season, scoring 15, 22, and 16 league goals in consecutive seasons. Thauvin was selected for Didier Deschamps’ 2018 World Cup squad after the most productive of these campaigns. And he played against Argentina in the last 16 as France went on to win the trophy.
He then went abroad again to Mexico, where he played 38 times and scored eight goals for Tigres UANL,. He he is now starting the next chapter of his career at Udinese Calcio in Italy.
