Wolves FC and Atletico Madrid agree a €40 million loan deal for Cunha
The Wanderers have agreed to sign Cunha on loan from Atletico Madrid for the remainder of the 2022-23 Premier League season. The 23-year-old has agreed to personal terms on the deal. The deal also includes Wanderers Wolves’ obligation to buy the Brazilian outright for €40 million (£34 million). The English club have beaten off competition from Aston Villa to sign Cunha.
The 23-year-old will be Julen Lopetegui’s first signing as head coach of Wolves, who are currently bottom of the Premier League after 15 games.
In the Spanish press, the former Sevilla, Spain, and Real Madrid manager has spoken openly about the deal.
Asked what he needs to do to turn things around at Molinuex, Lopetegui told Spanish outlet MARCA: “Convincing the boys that they have much more capacity.
“We’ll also try to strengthen the team in the January market – Cunha is nearby.”
The Wolves are in need of reinforcements up front following the departure of summer signings. Wolves have the fewest goals in the Premier League with eight. On his debut against Southampton in September, Sasa Kalajdzic tore his ACL.
