Wolves have written to the FA requesting an explanation for Toti Gomes’ disallowed goal against Liverpool in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Anfield.
Gomes appeared to have scored a late winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup third round after flicking the ball into the net from close range. However, the linesman raised his flag, and after a lengthy review with VAR. The goal was ruled offside because cameras couldn’t definitively prove he was incorrect. Although none of the TV angles showed a Wolves player offside, the assistant referee ruled that an out-of-frame Matheus Nunes was out of position. Julen Lopetegui fumed at the officials after the match and called it a “impossible” and “wrong decision”. The Wolves manager has now revealed that the club has written to the FA about the incident. Furthermore they are waiting for a response.
Wolves would have advanced to the next round if the goal had been awarded. Jurgen Klopp claimed he did expect the goal to stand and was surprised when it was reversed. The two teams will meet again in a replay at Molineux to determine who advances to the competition’s fourth round.
What did Wolves FC manager said?
“Of course, I saw the images on the internet and have an opinion. We have sent our comments to the FA and are awaiting an explanation. I spoke with you after the game. Now we’ve sent our comments, but it’s clear that something has happened “Lopetegui stated at his most recent press conference.
