Real Betis vs Sevilla | La Liga
Real Betis’ pursuit of a European berth in the Spanish league was thwarted after a 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla in the Seville derby on Sunday.
Betis took the lead with a goal from Isco in the 38th minute, but Kike Salas equalized for the visitors in the 56th, putting Betis two points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad in the final Europa Conference League slot.
Fifth-place Athletic Bilbao was nine points clear of Betis for the last Europa League qualification spot.
Sevilla remained in 13th place, but established a 12-point gap to the relegation zone with five rounds remaining.
Betis was awarded a penalty kick shortly after Sevilla equalized, but the decision was overruled following video review.
Isco’s penalty kick came after a contentious handball.
Betis had just won two games in a row, against Celta Vigo and Valencia, following a four-game losing streak. Sevilla had won three straight.
