Ajax is apparently interested in bringing Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag back to the Amsterdam Arena.

The Dutch giants have had a turbulent season when Maurice Steijn was fired following a terrible start to the season.

Steijn left Ajax in the automatic relegation zone after only five points from seven league games in charge.

John van’t Schip then returned to the club on an interim basis and was tasked with navigating the ship until the end of the current season.

The 60-year-old has helped Ajax ascend to fifth place in the Eredivisie League. They are presently playing in the Europa Conference League last 16 against Aston Villa.

While Van’t Schip concentrates on the pitch, Ajax’s new CEO, Alex Kroes, is planning to appoint a new head coach for the 2024-25 season.

Ajax wants Erik ten Hag back to the Club

According to The Mirror, Ajax has put together a shortlist that includes Ten Hag and Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

Ten Hag was the team’s head coach for four and a half years until he left in 2022. The story claims that Kroes is amenable to having him return.

Ten Hag achieved great success at Ajax, winning three Eredivisie titles, two KNVB Beker trophies, and a Johan Cruyff Shield.

The Dutchman also supervised Ajax’s spectacular run to the 2018-19 Champions League semi-finals, until Tottenham Hotspur shattered their European dream.

Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is uncertain, despite holding a contract until the summer of 2025.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Ten Hag’s co-owner at New Manchester United, plans to make an announcement when the current season concludes. However, the British billionaire is already considering Ten Hag’s 54-year-old replacement.

Ten Hag may not be in charge of the Red Devils for long. Manchester United are now sixth in the Premier League—to a successful season finish.

While the Manchester United manager has been connected with a return to the Amsterdam Arena, Lijnders may be the most feasible choice for the Ajax administration.

When Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp leaves the club at the conclusion of the season, the 41-year-old will step down as assistant manager.
