Salah has battled to regain full fitness since injuring his hamstring while playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

The 31-year-old returned to action in last month’s 4-1 victory over Brentford, but he suffered an injury during his substitute cameo.

Mohamed Salah was forced to miss four competitive matches before coming off the bench for Thursday’s 5-1 Europa League victory against Sparta Prague.

Despite having healed from his latest injury, Salah has been removed from Egypt’s 25-man roster following a request from Liverpool.

The Egyptian FA recently stated that Liverpool had requested that Salah be left out of their squad for the next friendly tournament.

The Pharaohs initially said they would call up Salah if he returned to action for Liverpool before the international break.

However, the Egyptian FA has chosen to modify its stance after Hossam Hassan left Salah out of his first squad since taking over as national team coach last month.

Egypt ultimately agreed to Liverpool’s request and prioritised Salah’s long-term fitness above the next round of international matches.

The Pharaohs will face New Zealand in the semi-finals of the Winsunited Cup on March 22, with the victor facing either Croatia or Tunisia in the final.

Salah is expected to play in Liverpool’s next two games before enjoying a two-week international break.

After playing championship rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, the Reds will focus on next weekend’s FA Cup match against Manchester United.

Liverpool, who have previously won the EFL Cup, are seeking to add to their trophy collection before Jurgen Klopp retires as manager in the summer.
