Alejandro Garnacho 'will start first Argentina game vs Costa Rica'

Alejandro Garnacho, a Manchester United winger, will allegedly make his debut for Argentina on Tuesday evening.

While the 19-year-old has long been regarded as a future star for both his club and his country, Erik ten Hag has only just put his whole trust in him.

Garnacho has made 29 starts and nine substitute appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting four times.

Ten Hag may view Garnacho as an important player, but Lionel Scaloni, Argentina’s head coach, does not.

Although the former Atletico Madrid youngster made his professional debut just before his 19th birthday last summer, he has yet to play more than 45 minutes in a single match.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, things will alter in the early hours of Wednesday morning (GMT time), when Garnacho joins the Argentina XI for a friendly against Costa Rica.

According to Romano, Scaloni is looking forward to seeing how the playmaker performs in Los Angeles as he finalizes plans for the Copa America later this year.

Garnacho has played only 96 minutes for his country in four appearances, with his debut coming in a friendly against Australia in Beijing, where he played the final 16 minutes.

Following that, he played 30 minutes against Indonesia in Jakarta, but he only appeared for five minutes in the four subsequent World Cup qualifiers.

Garnacho was not in the side that defeated Brazil in their final game of 2023, but he was introduced for the second half of a friendly against El Salvador last week.

La Albiceleste led by two goals before adding a third immediately after the half, but a more youthful team in the second period could not add any more goals, as Argentina won 3-0.

Garnacho’s likeable debut could hurt Manchester United, given the West Coast game isn’t scheduled to end until 4.45 a.m. on Wednesday in England.

United’s next Premier League match is away at Brentford on Saturday evening, giving Garnacho three and a half days to recover from a long-haul travel and prepare for the match in London.
