Manuel Akanji 'withdrawn from Switzerland Squad'

Man City get another injury concern ahead of the Arsenal match as Manuel Akanji sustains a knock.

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has sustained an injury while on international duty with Switzerland, with his team’s Premier League meeting with Arsenal looming this weekend.

Switzerland will play a friendly against Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday evening, and Akanji is expected to miss the game owing to injury.

The 28-year-old has started his country’s previous 16 games, but he will not be in the team tonight.

Akanji might be ruled out of Sunday’s match against Arsenal if he sustains an injury.

The centre-back, who joined the champions from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been an important player for Pep Guardiola this season, starting 19 of the club’s 28 league games.

The latest injury scare comes just days after Kyle Walker was forced to miss England’s friendly against Brazil on Saturday night.

Manuel Akanji has withdrawn from the Switzerland squad for friendly match

The 33-year-old strained his left hamstring while running back to clear Vinicius Jr’s attempt off the line.

While attempting to continue, he was substituted before the 20-minute mark and later withdrew from the England squad ahead of tonight’s friendly against Belgium.

While City were left to worry about Walker’s fitness, sources say they are hoping he merely sustained a minor injury and will be available for Mikel Arteta’s visit.

Kevin de Bruyne and Jack Grealish were also spotted in training this week.

Both midfielders have been dealing with groin issues, with de Bruyne missing the FA Cup quarterfinal win over Newcastle United and withdrew from the Belgium camp earlier this month.

Both City and Arsenal will keep a careful eye on Norway’s friendly versus Slovakia tonight. Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard are scheduled to start before facing battle against opposition teams in Manchester this weekend.
