Anthony Martial confirms decision on Manchester United's future

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has announced that he will leave the club this summer.
French defender Raphael Varane said earlier this month that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

Varane will be followed out the door by his countrymen Martial, who will also depart Manchester United at the end of his contract.

In an emotional social media statement, the 28-year-old stated that his nine-year stint at Old Trafford is coming to an end.

Anthony Martial bids farewell to Manchester United

Martial wrote on Instagram: “Dear Manchester United fans, I write to you today with considerable sadness to say farewell. After nine amazing years at the club, it’s time for me to start a new chapter in my career.

“Since I arrived in 2015, I’ve had the incredible honor of wearing this shirt and performing in front of you, the best fans in the world! You have been a constant source of support, both in good and bad times. Your enthusiasm and loyalty have been an ongoing source of inspiration for me.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for me. Your music, encouragement, and love for the club will live on in my heart forever.

“I’d also like to thank everyone of my teammates, technical staff, and club members I’ve encountered over the past nine years. I am pleased to have been able to share these experiences with you.

“Manchester United will always be in my heart. This club has left an imprint on my career and given me a wonderful opportunity to perform in front of you. I’m departing to pursue new opportunities, but I’ll always be a Red Devil and will passionately follow the club’s results.”

Anthony Martial announces departure from Manchester United

Martial had an immediate impact at Manchester United, scoring on his debut against Liverpool after joining from Monaco in 2015 for an initial fee of £36 million.

However, he was unable to build on his early promise, as poor form and injuries prevented him from performing to expectations.

Martial completed a brief loan spell at Spanish club Sevilla in 2022 before returning to the club after Erik ten Hag arrived.

The Dutchman tried to get the best out of Martial, but injuries have limited the forward to 34 Premier League games over the last two seasons.

After groin surgery earlier this year, Martial has not played for Manchester United since a 3-0 home loss to Bournemouth on December 9.

During his nine years with Manchester United, he scored 90 goals and provided 47 assists in 317 matches across all competitions.

The Frenchman leaves the Red Devils having won two EFL Cups, the FA Cup, the Europa League, and the Community Shield.
