Atletico Madrid and Memphis Depay have reached an agreement on a transfer, but Barcelona is’reluctant to let the forward go unless they receive Yannick Carrasco or a transfer fee in return’ from LaLiga rivals.

Barcelona’s forward has already agreed to a contract extension with Atletico Madrid until the summer of 2025. However, both clubs are still in talks in order to reach an agreement on the specifics of the operation.

Depay wanted to join Atletico Madrid, who have made him their top priority following the departures of Matheus Cunha and Joao Felix.

The deal is finalized already but few talks are ongoing with Barcelona. The Catalans are wary of strengthening a direct rival, having seen how transfer dealings with Atleti have gone in the past.

At the same time, they want financial compensation if Depay switches. If not, Barça would consider a swap involving Yannick Carrasco, who is unhappy at the Civitas Metropolitano and is reportedly pushing for a move to Camp Nou.

However, Atletico Madrid sees Carrasco as an important part of Diego Simeone’s plans and is unwilling to let him join Barcelona, resulting in a stalemate in negotiations.

The Rojiblancos want to sign Depay but are hesitant to do so because the Dutchman will be a free agent in the summer, when they can sign him without any problems.

The Netherlands superstar is free to negotiate with any club, and his agent has done so with the Colchoneros, reaching an agreement on a contract extension until 2025.

Despite having an agreement in place with the striker, Atletico have yet to reach an agreement with Barça, but they do not want to wait too long because they are currently down to three forwards and need to resolve the matter quickly.
