Barcelona 'open to sell Araujo this summer'

Barcelona will contemplate selling Ronald Araujo this summer as their financial troubles continue to plague the club. Since Lionel Messi’s departure in 2021, Barcelona has avoided losing a big player, but that streak appears to be coming to an end this summer.

As the Blaugrana aim to reduce their €200 million wage excess, they will need to make at least one large sale in order to sign players like Vitor Roque and Inigo Martinez next summer. After the win over Napoli, Araujo stated that his future ‘depended on the club’.

According to ESPN, the club will sell him if they receive a good offer.

Barcelona has been internally debating the sale of the Uruguayan or Frenkie de Jong this summer, and they want to balance their books with other sales of less important players, but this is obviously depending on what offers arrive.

The Blaugrana reportedly rejected two proposals from Bayern Munich in January, but will accept an offer of around €100 million for the 24-year-old this summer.

Football España reports that the central defender is also garnering interest from the Premier League.

Araujo was once dubbed a ‘untouchable’ Barcelona player, and the defender has always stated that he is content with his current situation.

President Joan Laporta stated that he would’renew Araujo for life’.
They are believed to be negotiating a new deal at the same time.

Losing him would be like taking the heart out of their defence, and Xavi Hernandez reportedly vowed to  resign if he was moved to Bayern in January, before eventually doing so.

Given Pau Cubarsi’s outstanding form, now may be a less risky time to announce the news.
