Borussia Dortmund took a key 1-0 lead against Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal, thanks to a goal from Niclas Fullkrug.

The contest began evenly, with both teams creating opportunities. Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele and Marcel Sabitzer both had scoring chances, but the game remained scoreless until the 36th minute. Nico Schlotterbeck produced a superb cross into the PSG box, finding Fullkrug, who smashed the ball past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to put Dortmund ahead.

Dortmund maintained their pressure, with Donnarumma making a crucial save on a Sabitzer effort shortly before halftime. PSG stepped up their onslaught after the interval, with Kylian Mbappe and Achraf Hakimi hitting the post within minutes of each other, narrowly missing equalizers.

Despite PSG’s best efforts, Dortmund remained a threat, particularly when Fullkrug squandered a close-range opportunity and later headed over the bar. The game remained open, with both teams trading attacks in the closing moments; Dembele and Vitinha for PSG both missed shots, while Julian Brandt’s effort was saved by Marquinhos at a critical moment.

Dortmund’s defense remained strong, retaining their 1-0 lead heading into the second leg in Paris.

“It was an outstanding team performance tonight. We assisted each other and are quite pleased with the outcome of the game,” said Dortmund veteran defender Mats Hummels.

“The boys played an excellent game. They had opportunities to add additional goals to the advantage, but we were fortunate twice. Overall, a superb effort that puts us in a strong position for a difficult second leg in Paris. “We have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League final,” remarked Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic.
