Bundesliga will have five teams in the Champions League next season, following Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, which secured Germany’s second spot in UEFA’s coefficient chart this season.

Two leagues will receive an extra place through the European Performance Spots, which are awarded to the two leagues with the best average performance across the three European competitions each season as part of the Champions League’s revamp to expand to a 36-team competition.
Serie A had already secured top position last month. Borussia Dortmund’s triumph means Germany cannot be overtaken by the two remaining challengers, England and France.
“We wanted to qualify for the Champions League through the Bundesliga and not this way,” Dortmund manager Edin Terzic stated after beating PSG.
“However, the fact that it will be able to qualify for fifth place is due in part to our success and contribution.
“Our minimal goal was to qualify for the Champions League. Now it [extra spot] does not boost our Bundesliga season, but it does provide a more comfortable landing.”
The Premier League entered the quarterfinals as overwhelming favorites to finish second after Italy. However, a harsh quarterfinal draw eliminated Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, and West Ham United. Only Aston Villa remain active in the Europa Conference League.
Germany emerged as a powerhouse, with Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen defeating Arsenal and West Ham in the semi-finals.
Dortmund, trailing RB Leipzig by five points with three games left, will receive an extra spot. Dortmund seem to finish the Bundesliga in fifth place.
Bundesliga will have six teams in the Champions League: the top four, Dortmund as champions, and the European Performance Spot. This scenario would only arise in the event that Dortmund wins the Champions League and places fifth.
The Bundesliga would forfeit one of its Europa League spots, which would have gone to Dortmund.
