Ralf Rangnick reportedly turned down the opportunity to succeed Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich manager, leaving the club looking for a replacement.

Bayern had been contemplating a deal with Rangnick that would see him leave the Austrian role early.

According to BILD, Rangnick plans to stay with Austria until his contract expires in 2026 and will lead them to Euro 2024 this summer.

Rangnick was already their third candidate to replace Tuchel after Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Germany’s Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern and Tuchel announced in February that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

According to reports from Germany, the squad was divided at the moment, with Harry Kane and Manuel Neuer supporting Tuchel and Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich opposing him.

While Bayern are in the Champions League semi-finals, they have yet to win the Bundesliga crown after 11 consecutive victories.

They were also eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by third-tier club Saarbrucken, leaving Kane on the bench.

On Tuesday night, their Champions League first leg against Real Madrid ended 2-2, with goals from Leroy Sane and Harry Kane sandwiched between Vinicius Junior’s goals.

Ralf Rangnick will be well-known in England for his unsuccessful stint as Manchester United’s temporary manager in the 2021/22 season.

Following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he guided the team to sixth place that season, but was unable to persuade fans and players, particularly Cristiano Ronaldo.

In Germany, his stock is slightly higher. He is considered as the ‘father of Gegenpressing’ and has also done admirably for Austria.

It’s unclear who Bayern will pick next. However, their Champions League success raises an intriguing question: Will they reassess Tuchel’s future?

Ralf Rangnick has reportedly turned down the chance to replace Thomas Tuchel

Bayern are on track to surpass last season’s points total and would normally seal the title if Leverkusen had not had such an incredible undefeated season.

Fans reacted negatively when it was revealed that Bayern were in talks with Rangnick.

Fans started a petition named ‘We want Juppel (Thomas Tuchel) and not Rangnick’, which has received over 18,500 signatures.

Tuchel made minimal remark on the subject.

‘Even though this topic is beneficial to me when they [the fans] want you to stay, it is not a priority,’ he stated before their 2-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt last month.

‘It is not permitted to be a priority. Everything will revolve on football for the next 11 days. Whether it’s good or bad, I refuse to be influenced by it.

Fault lines have plagued Tuchel’s rule at Bayern for some years, with particular tension between him and the club’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness.

Hoeness recently escalated his criticism of Tuchel’s coaching style.

‘He does not believe he can improve on Davies, Pavlovic, or Musiala. If that doesn’t work, purchase someone else,’ Honess said.

‘I think you should work hard on them and boost their confidence.’

Tuchel responded: “It offends me deeply as a coach.”

‘If the coaching team has demonstrated anything over the last 15 years, it is that young players, particularly those from the academy, always have a place with us in training and, through performance, a position on the pitch.

‘And by the way, we’ve proven it! I have little knowledge of it. I find it completely unfounded!

‘This is so far from reality that I wouldn’t have responded if Uli hadn’t mentioned it.

‘The fact that it comes from our leader before Real adds a unique flavor.’
