Cody Gakpo leaves PSV for Liverpool


Cody Gakpo, the Dutch Player’s football career will continue at Liverpool FC. PSV confirmed Monday evening that the English club had acquired the Oranje-international from them.

The 23-year-old footballer impressed at the World Cup, scoring three goals for the Netherlands. Gakpo will leave immediately for England, where he will “go through the necessary formalities to complete the transfer,” according to PSV.

The transfer fee was not disclosed by either club. “However, this is a record transfer for PSV,” general manager Marcel Brands said. On Boxing Day, the PSV management finalized the transfer and granted Gakpo permission to travel to England for a medical examination.

According to reports, Liverpool paid around 42 million euros for the striker. This figure could rise to more than 55 million euros. Liverpool, on the other hand, has yet to confirm Gakpo’s arrival.

The Eindhoven native appears to have played his final match for PSV against AZ on November 12. (0-1). Gakpo made his Eindhoven debut as a substitute in the team’s away game against Feyenoord on February 25, 2018.

During the 2018-19 season, he appeared in 16 first-team games, mostly as a substitute. He scored 10 more goals in 11 games for Jong PSV that season.

Meanwhile, Gakpo has played 106 Eredivisie games and scored 36 goals. With nine goals, he is now the Eredivisie’s leading scorer.
