Cole Palmer dramatic last minute penalty goal led Chelsea drew against City at Stamford on Sunday’s Premier League Match.
Cole Palmer saved a point for Chelsea with a stoppage-time penalty against his former club Manchester City in a pulsating, eight-goal Premier League classic at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea from his boyhood club in the summer, held his nerve to beat Ederson as Mauricio Pochettino’s side came from behind for the third time in a tense game.
Manchester City appeared to be on course for a three-point lead after Rodri’s deflected strike put them 4-3 up in the 86th minute, but Palmer’s penalty, awarded after Ruben Dias fouled substitute Armando Broja, added a final twist.
Earlier in the game, Erling Haaland scored from the penalty spot after Marc Cucurella was controversially found to have fouled the Norwegian after a lengthy VAR review.
The sense of injustice fueled Chelsea’s ferocious response, with goals from Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling, the latter also playing against his former club, putting them ahead before Manuel Akanji’s header brought City level just before halftime.
After the restart, Haaland slid home his second and City’s third goal as a thrilling game continued to ebb and flow, with Jackson tucking home a loose ball for Chelsea’s third goal before the two sides traded blows once more, first through Rodri and then through Palmer, to round out a sensational spectacle.
The draw moves City one point clear of Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table, while Chelsea, only five days after another classic against Tottenham, moves up a place to tenth, albeit with hopes of bigger things to come.
