Dan Burn | Newcastle United have announced that defender’s contract has been extended until 2025.

Dan Burn pens new contract extension

Since joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2020, the 31-year-old Blyth native has established himself as a first-team regular under boss Eddie Howe.

Burn has made 70 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions, including all 38 Premier League games last season as Howe’s side finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.

The 6ft 7in defender has firmly established himself at left-back and was part of a Newcastle defense that allowed only 33 goals in the Premier League last season, the fewest of any team in the division.

Burn has since appeared in ten games this season, scoring his first Champions League goal in a thrilling 4-1 home win over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

Burn’s previous contract was set to expire in the summer of 2024, but the defender has decided to commit his future to the club by signing a one-year extension.

“It means everything to me to play for this club and sign a new contract,” Burn told the official Newcastle website.

“When I signed, I said I didn’t want this to be just a’stop-gap’ signing to keep us going; I wanted to be here for a long time.”

“So signing this one feels even more like an accomplishment to me than signing here in the first place.” I’m overjoyed and looking forward to the next few seasons.”

“Dan is a leader on and off the field, so we are delighted he has extended his stay with us,” Howe continued.

“He is an important member of our squad and has played a significant role in our progress since his arrival.”

“He knows exactly what it means to represent this great club and is hungry to succeed, and that can only help the team and the club going forward.”

Burn’s new deal comes just a week after midfielder Bruno Guimaraes’ contract was extended until the summer of 2028.

The defender is expected to feature in Newcastle’s next Premier League encounter, which is against Crystal Palace at home on October 21.
