David Raya has joined the Gunners on a season-long loan from Brentford FC.
The 27-year-old has been a key member of the Bees’ club in recent seasons, appearing in all 38 Premier League games last season.
David arrived in England as an academy player at the age of 16 after being born in Barcelona. David left Lancashire for west London in July 2019 after a short-term loan to Southport in the National League, promotion to the Championship with Rovers, and 108 professional games.
He went on to make 161 appearances in all competitions for Thomas Frank’s team. His debut season culminated with him winning the EFL Golden Glove and almost losing out on Premier League promotion. He didn’t have to wait long to play in the top flight of English football, as David played a major role in Brentford’s 2021 Championship play-off final victory over Swansea City.
David Raya is now an Arsenal player till the end of his loan period
David had a terrific year on the international level last year, as he was called up to represent Spain in March 2022, making his debut in a 2-1 triumph over Albania. Raya was then named to Spain’s FIFA World Cup squad for 2022.
Raya lifted silverware with his team at the end of the 2022/23 season. At that moment Spain defeated Croatia on penalties to win the 2023 UEFA Nations League.
“We welcome David to us on a season-long loan from Brentford,” remarked Sporting Director Edu. David is a top-tier goalkeeper who has consistently delivered in the Premier League for Brentford. David gives our team more quality and depth, enabling us to compete at the best level in all competitions.
The arrangement includes the option to make the transfer permanent.
David will wear the number 22 jersey, and everyone at Arsenal wishes him well.
