Ederson has been ruled out for four weeks after sustaining a leg injury

Manchester City’s championship defence has been given a major blow as Ederson was ruled out for up to four weeks with a thigh injury. He is projected to miss the crucial encounter against Arsenal on March 31.

Stefan Ortega replaced Ederson after 56 minutes of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Ortega is a seasoned deputy who began June’s successful FA Cup final and is the competition’s regular number one. However, Ederson’s absence for up to three Premier League games – home games against Arsenal and Aston Villa, as well as a trip to Crystal Palace – is a big setback for Pep Guardiola’s club as they pursue a record four consecutive league titles.

Following Sunday’s tie, Mikel Arteta’s side now has 64 points, the same as Liverpool, with City one point behind, with 10 games remaining.

To have the best chance of retaining the title, the champs need beat Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Easter Sunday.

Ederson Injured Himself Fouling Darwin Nunez

Ederson lunged at Nunez carelessly, injuring his leg.

While he originally remained on the pitch and even attempted to save the penalty himself, he was soon dragged off.

He was replaced by Stefan Ortega, who had frequently served as his deputy throughout his time in Manchester. Now, with many huge games coming up, including a must see clash against Arsenal on March 31, which might decide who lifts the Premier League trophy in May, City will be without their number-one-shot-stopper.

Guardiola’s side is presently one point behind Arsenal in the table, but it could have been more following Sunday’s thrilling game at Anfield.
