Ederson, the Veteran Goalkeeper of Manchester City has withdrawn from the Brazil squad due to injury.
Ederson comes in as one of three goalkeepers to Fernando Diniz’s initial squad. Alongside Ederson the two favorable names are Liverpool’s Alisson Becker and Botafogo’s Lucas Perri.
He had to leave Sunday’s 4–4 draw between Man City and Chelsea due to a foot injury.
Brazil has since called up Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento to replace Ederson for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.
The injury will be a setback for Ederson, who has established himself as Brazil’s first-choice goalkeeper during the current qualifying campaign.
Ederson pulls out of Brazil squad
The 30-year-old played in all four of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but he will now give way to Alisson.
Aside from Ederson, Diniz is also without Casemiro, Neymar, and Richarlison, and Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is a major doubt.
Jesus has missed Arsenal’s last five games due to a hamstring injury, and he will now be evaluated by Brazil’s medical staff before a decision on his availability is made.
Meanwhile, Guardiola will be hoping that Ederson’s injury is not too serious, as the Citizens face Liverpool on November 25.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola is already dealing with a number of injuries, including that of Netherlands international Nathan Ake.
The defender was forced to withdraw from the Dutch squad for their final two Euro 2024 qualifying games after missing Sunday’s draw with Chelsea.
John Stones is currently recovering from a muscle injury sustained. He was substituted during the team’s most recent 3-0 Champions League victory over Young Boys. On the other hand Nathan Ake is also out of squad due to the the injury.
Guardiola is still without long-term absentee Kevin De Bruyne. Kevin is recovering from a hamstring injury, and Sergio Gomez, who is out with an ankle injury.
