Marcelino | Villarreal has appointed #the_former_coach as manager following the departure of Jose Rojo Martin, who left the club just two months after taking over.

Rojo Martin, nicknamed ‘Pacheta,’ left Villarreal on Friday, with Director of Football Miguel Angel Tena leading the team in a 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Marcelino, who has a contract until 2026, previously managed Villarreal from 2013 to 2016, guiding them to the Spanish top flight.

In his final season, the 58-year-old helped Villarreal to three top-six finishes and a Europa League semi-final.

He most recently coached Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1.

Villarreal currently sits 14th in La Liga with 12 points from 13 games. On November 26, it will host 12th-placed Osasuna.

Marcelino returns to Villarreal for a second time as manager

Villarreal’s new head coach is Marcelino Garcia Toral.

The 58-year-old specialist signed a contract that will last until the summer of 2026 and will begin work on Tuesday.

From 2013 to 2016, Marcelino worked for Villarreal. He then moved on to Valencia, Athletic, and Marseille. In September, he left the French club.

Villarreal are 14th in La Liga after 13 rounds, with 12 points. His next match will be against Osasuna on November 26.
