Emiliano Martinez adds another trophy after Golden Glove
Emiliano Martinez, the Aston Villa and Argentina Goalkeeper has won the Yashin Trophy. The winner of the Yashin Trophy refers to the best goalie of the season.
During Monday night’s ceremony in Paris, Emiliano Martinez’s father Alberto presented him with the award. Martinez has had an outstanding year, having won the World Cup with Argentina in December. In the waning moments, he made a key save on Randal Kolo Muani, sending the game to penalties. He received the Golden Glove at FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar. In honor of his heroic efforts throughout the competition in Qatar, the best goalie in the competition receives the Gloves.
Martinez also had 13 clean sheets for Aston Villa last season, guiding them to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League and a place in European action this season. Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid has been replaced by the Argentine.
Ederson of Manchester City came in second, ahead of Yassine Bounous, who finished ahead of Martinez in the Ballon d’Or standings. Courtois came in fourth, followed by Marc-André ter Stegen, André Onana, Dominik Livakovic, and Aaron Ramsdeal. Mike Maignan, goalie for AC Milan and France’s number one, finished ninth, ahead of compatriot Brice Samba, whose performances helped RC Lens win the UEFA Champions League.
