Fabio Cannavaro was named head coach of relegation-threatened Udinese on Monday.

Fabio Cannavaro appointed as the New Coach of Udinese

Cannavaro joins Udinese as its third coach this season. He succeeds the sacked Gabriele Cioffi, who took over for Andrea Sottil in October.

Cannavaro was given a contract for the season’s last six matches. His brother, Paolo, will be his main helper.

The transfer comes following Udinese’s 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona on Saturday, which left them one point above the drop zone and even with 18th-place Frosinone.

Udinese has been in the top flight continuously since 1995.

While Cannavaro has managed various clubs in China and the Middle East, his only managing experience in Italy was with Benevento in Serie B for a portion of last season.

Cannavaro, a former center back, earned the Ballon d’Or for helping Italy defeat France in the 2006 World Cup final.

Cannavaro will take over for the final 19 minutes of Udinese’s match against Roma on Thursday.

On April 14, the score was 1-1 when Roma defender Evan Ndicka fainted, causing the action to be halted. Ndicka was released from the hospital a day later, despite having a collapsed left lung.

This marks the 13th coaching change in Serie A this season.

Fabio Cannavaro is Juventus’ new coach

Udinese Calcio is delighted to welcome the world champion and 2006 Golden Ball winner, who will head the team until the end of the football season. He signed a contract until June 30, 2024.

There is no need to recall one of the best players in Italian football history; Cannavaro is a young and well-prepared international coach who has already had the opportunity to put his abilities to the test overseas.

The club has picked him as the best figure to lead the team to salvation based on his field expertise and technique, as well as his indisputable leadership.

Mister Cannavaro will be joined by his brother Paolo as an assistant coach and Francesco Troise as a technical consultant.

Furthermore, it is with great pleasure that the Juventus family welcomes back Giampiero Pinzi, an Udinese icon.

For him, after writing wonderful pages in our history as a player, this is a return to the Juventus technical staff, where he previously served from 2019 to 2022.

Pinzi returns with a lot of expertise and skills, as well as a love of our colors.

The new employees will lead the first training session this afternoon at 3 p.m.
Fabio Cannavaro will give a presentation tomorrow, April 23, at 1pm in the Bluenergy Stadium’s press room. For televisions, it will be available as usual through the Infront portal.
