Galatasaray have confirmed the signing of Nicolo Zaniolo on a permanent transfer from Roma.
The 23-year-old Italian forward became dissatisfied with his situation in the Italian capital this season and attempted to force a move away from the club during the January transfer window, hoping to join Milan.
The Rossoneri were unable to reach an agreement with Roma, and Zaniolo initially turned down a move to Bournemouth before changing his mind, but the Cherries had already moved on to other targets. The situation left the 23-year-old in Rome as a spare part, and it was clear that his time with the club was coming to an end.
Zaniolo has officially joined Galatasaray on a four-and-a-half-year contract worth around €3.5 million net per season plus add-ons.
His contract also includes a €35 million release clause, and Roma has a 15% future resale clause. The provision that, if the release provision is hit, might result in them receiving €5.25 million.
According to reports, Galatasaray will pay Roma €16.5 million plus €13 million in add-ons, half of which are easy to achieve and some of which are more difficult.
An agreement for Nicolo Zaniolo is always great, AS Roma can confirm in a brief statement from Galatasaray. The forward has completed a permanent transfer to the Turkish club.
“Zaniolo joined the Giallorossi in the summer of 2018 and went on to make 128 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 24 goals.”
