Gary Neville and Roy Keane still think Manchester City will win the Premier League title at the end of the current campaign. But they think Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team would need to go on a “special run” to defeat them.
After Arsenal’s exciting 3-2 victory over Manchester United restored their five-point lead atop the league.
In addition, Arteta’s team has a game still to play against Manchester City, which might help the Gunners increase their lead to eight points.
Gary Neville added that Arsenal still has to play the league’s reigning champions twice, and the commentator suggested Pep Guardiola’s club is still capable of going on a sustained winning streak to increase the pressure in the race for the championship.
Neville opined, “I don’t see [Arsenal] going on to win the league.” I predict that City will win the league. I think Manchester City is about to embark on a particularly spectacular run.
‘City will be right on their shoulders, making things very tough for them and believe Arsenal will lose one or two games this season.
I can’t believe Arsenal is even in the conversation because I believe they has little chance of winning the league.
Although I don’t think it’s a bad idea to say that City will win the league, I believe City will pursue them. The fact that they are in the chat is fantastic.
They are in with a shout, and Mikel Arteta finds it unbelievable. At the conclusion of the previous season, I worried about him because I thought it may be challenging for him.
Roy Keane about the title race
Keane agreed with Neville’s assessment, but he thinks Arsenal’s winning attitude against United suggests the North London team has a shot at winning the championship.
He highlighted Arsenal’s reaction to falling down early in the game to Marcus Rashford’s goal as proof of their camaraderie and capacity to handle the pressure of a title race.
The former captain of Manchester United added, “If it were betting on it, I still say City, but seeing Arsenal today with the technical skill and the mentality, it will take a lot to stop them.”
If they do go on to win it, I wouldn’t be all that astonished or surprised.
After what City has accomplished over the past few years and their increased depth, “I still do sway towards City.”
Jamie Redknapp, a different analyst, asserted that this season’s only two title contenders are Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, he stated that City is “the last team in the world you want hunting you down” despite his assessment that “something is not quite right with City.”
Cesc Fabregas, a former captain of Arsenal, acknowledged that he was impressed with how his former team managed the last minutes of their victory over Manchester United after Eddie Nketiah’s late goal.
Fabregas thinks Arteta and his team showed they can handle the strain of a crucial game.
According to him, Arsenal has the tools necessary to win the league this season and their manager is an expert in his field.
“They controlled the game pretty well in the last five minutes.” They are skilled at what they do.
