Gavi became the Spanish national team’s youngest player in major tournament ever. The midfielder came into the starting lineup for the 2022 World Cup match against Costa Rica. He also got involved in the goal attack in the 11th minute.
The Barcelona player is 18 years and 110 days old today. Spain has never featured younger players on the field at the Euros or the World Cups. Gavi has already represented Spain at the under-15 and under-16 levels.
Gavi received unexpected call up to the senior Spain national team by manager Luis Enrique on September 30, 2021. On October 6, he made his senior debut for Spain in their UEFA Nations League semi-final victory against Italy, becoming the country’s youngest player ever. Spain got their defeat by 2-1 in the final against France on October 10th. He scored his first senior goal in the Nations League away against the Czech Republic on June 5, 2022, becoming the youngest player to ever score for Spain at the senior level.
