Goncalo Guedes is close to joining Spanish club Villarreal CF on loan.
Wolves signed the winger from Valencia for £27.5 million in the summer of 2022. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Benfica before returning to the Portuguese club on a season-long loan this season.
Because Wolves’ loan agreement lacked a recall clause, Guedes insisted that Benfica agree to terminate his loan before making another move.

Villarreal’s upper management is close to finalizing a deal to add a high-profile player to the club’s frontline.
That’s according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who gave an update on what’s going on behind the scenes at the Estadio de la Cerámica tonight.
Villarreal are reportedly set to sign Gonçalo Guedes from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Guedes, for his part, spent the first half of the season in his native Portugal as part of a season-long loan deal with Benfica.
To say his time in Lisbon has been disappointing would be an understatement.
Since last summer, Guedes has only made one start in all competitions for the Águias.
In turn, recent reports that Benfica’s management is planning to terminate the 27-year-old’s contract early have come as no surprise.
Guedes, on the other hand, will not be returning to his parent club Wolves for long.
Villarreal is ‘closing on a deal’ to bring the ex-Valencia star back to Spain for the remainder of the season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the ‘final details’ of the agreement are currently being worked out between Wolves and Villarreal. As a result, Guedes has scheduled a medical with the latter in the coming days.
