Florian Wirtz, a young star for Bayer Leverkusen, has won the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for December. He beat out notable names like Harry Kane and Xavi Simons.
The 20-year-old emerged as the standout performer in December, starting all four of the German club’s Bundesliga games. Wirtz’s consistent and influential performances have helped propel the team to the top of the table this winter.
The German international had a significant impact in December, scoring two goals and assisting on two others.
On Matchday 15, Wirtz scored and assisted Victor Boniface’s first goal as Bayer defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0.
Leroy Sané of Bayern Munich leads the Bundesliga’s assist charts, with seven this season, tied for second place with Florian Wirtz.
He also scored a goal to help his team earn a point away at overperforming Stuttgart.
Only Wirtz’s teammate Boniface scored more goals (five) in December. Similarly, Heidenheim’s Jan-Niklas Beste had three more assists than Leverkusen’s No.10.
