Jordan Henderson has returned to European football after his contract with Al-Ettifaq was terminated, signing for Ajax.

Henderson has joined AFC Ajax from Ettifaq Club

The transfer came after the England midfielder spent less than six months in Saudi Arabia, where he was reportedly unhappy. The 33-year-old joined Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool last summer on a three-year deal worth an estimated £350,000 per week. However, after shortening his stay, he has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Ajax.

“I’m sad to say that I will be leaving Al-Ettifaq with immediate effect,” Henderson wrote on social media. “It was not an easy decision, but I believe it is best for me and my family.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the club and the fans for all of their support during my time here. I felt the love from the beginning. I’ll continue to watch and hope for your success. “Good luck in the future.”

According to an Ajax statement, “Ajax has reached an agreement with Jordan Henderson on his transfer to Amsterdam.” “The free agent, former Sunderland and Liverpool player, signed a contract at Ajax lasting two-and-a-half years, until June 30, 2026.”

Henderson is BACK to EUROPEAN FOOTBALL

Henderson’s signing was confirmed after he agreed to terms and had a medical earlier on Thursday.

He told the Ajax website: “It’s been a difficult year or so for the club, both on and off the field, but the same has been true for me in the last six months. So, hopefully, we can help each other come together, move forward, and be as successful as possible in the near future.

“It’s been a whirlwind, senseless few days.” “However, I’m so excited to be here, to start a new chapter, a new journey in my life and career, and to be a member of this club.

“Once I knew that there was an opportunity, I was overexcited and really overwhelmed that this opportunity was there for me. It was something I wanted to try and accomplish.”

The Ajax manager, John van ’t Schip, added: “We wanted an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities. We were looking for someone who could step in right away, partly because of team injuries. Jordan Henderson is that kind of player.

Samer Al Misehal, president of Al-Ettifaq, stated: “First and foremost, the club would like to thank Jordan for his efforts and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“We always respect our players. The club and Jordan believe that this quick decision, made without further delay or distraction, is for the benefit of both the club and Jordan.”

“His arrival is a huge boost for our team. A football player of this caliber is invaluable to our many young players, both on and off the pitch.

“He is an English international player who has won the Champions League and numerous other awards with Liverpool. “I am glad he is here.”
