Liverpool introduced their new 2024–25 outfit with a nostalgic twist, drawing influence from a renowned former jersey.

The Reds are preparing for a new season without manager Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure from Anfield after nine years in charge, with Arne Slot of Feyenoord due to take over.

And now the club has offered a taste of what life will be like once the 56-year-old leaves by releasing their new strip for next season, which is inspired by their great 1984 team.

That historic side sported a similar style when they won the First Division, League Cup, and European Cup under manager Joe Fagan, with a team widely regarded as the best in club history.

The new shirt is a dramatic departure from the current uniform, which is primarily plain red with a white neck and sleeves.

This variation, like the classic design, features a pinstripe down the body and two white straps with a red strip down the middle that serves as the collar.

There is also a horizontal line going across the center of the pinstripe pattern, giving the design an edgier appearance.

The team’s logos were all white last season, but things have changed slightly for the upcoming campaign. Nike’s manufacturer logo and club crest are now gold.

However, Liverpool’s principal sponsor, Standard Chartered, and sleeve sponsor, Expedia, remain in white.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk led the Liverpool stars in displaying the new kit on a Liverpool-branded Vespa, a tribute to the Reds’ European Cup final victory against Rome on penalties in the Italian city.

The Dutchman was observed modelling the kit despite uncertainty about his own future, as his contract  expires next season.

Earlier this season, he declined to commit to the club, but later claimed that he ‘loves the club’.

Van Dijk, who modelled the kit with Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate, Darwin Nunez, Alexis MacAllister, and Joe Gomez, expressed his satisfaction with the new design and praised the shirt’s’retro’ feel.

He praised the legendary 1984 team and hoped that the new team will be able to ‘improve on history’.

‘I’m a big supporter of our new kit for next season, and I love how we’re bringing the retro vibe back. We are a club with a long history, and the 1984 team was among our most successful. I’m confident our fans will appreciate the tribute to those club legends.

Liverpool Women’s captain Taylor Hinds said, ”It’s such a distinct style for the upcoming season, and we can’t wait to wear it. The retro inspiration always makes you feel like a piece of the club’s past is with you while you play.

Liverpool’s plans for next season are becoming clearer as Slot’s appointment as manager approaches.

Last week, Mail Sport reported that his Dutch club Feyenoord was close to finalizing a contract for Slot to become Liverpool manager after he publicly expressed his desire to take the post.

Feyenoord, as Mail Sport reported earlier this week, wants at least £8.6 million in compensation to release Slot from his contract.
