Greenwood is expected to turn down offers from Barcelona in favor of returning to Manchester United at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The 22-year-old’s future is being considered, with Barcelona and other Spanish clubs reportedly interested in signing him permanently.
Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United last summer. There, he has played 24 games for the capital club, scoring seven goals and assisting five times.
Manchester United’s new minority stakeholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has hinted that the club’s academy product may return to Old Trafford.
“I can talk about the theory, but I won’t talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is crucial because we will face more challenges in the future,” Ratcliffe told journalists earlier this week.
“You’re dealing with young individuals who haven’t necessarily been raised in the finest of circumstances, who are extremely bright, have a lot of money, and don’t always receive the direction they require.
“When we have difficulties like that, we must first grasp what the facts are – the genuine facts, not the sensationalism. Then we must make a fair choice based on the club’s ideals; that is what we must and will do.
“We will make a decision, that’s correct. We’ll rationalize it in one way or another. All I can do is discuss the principle of how we would approach it. Is he the proper type of footballer? Is he a good person?
“Well, he’s a Man-Utd player, and we rule football, therefore the answer is yes; we must make a simple decision.
“No decision has been taken. He’s on loan, obviously. We have one or two footballers on our books that we need to deal with, and we will make that decision.
Greenwood | From Rising Young-Star to Crim
Greenwood feels he has “a duty” to Man United supporters, according to The Sun.
As a result, he may reject a move to Barcelona if he believes he will be welcomed back at Old Trafford.
He was arrested two years ago on suspicion of rape and assault after a lady accused him. He was later charged with sexual assault and threatening to kill.
The English Man was also charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm, but the case was withdrawn in February, and he was anticipated to return to the Manchester United first-team squad last summer.
The Red Devils are claimed to have been forced to make a U-turn due to public outrage, although Ratcliffe has stated that he will now assess the situation before making any final decisions.
The Englishman made 129 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions. He scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists; his last goal came in January 2022 as Manchester Utd player.
“But the process will understand the facts, not the hoopla, and then try to make a fair conclusion based on recommendations, which is essentially whether he’s a nice guy or not. Could he play truly for Manchester United and leave us and the fans satisfied?”
