Toni Kroos returns to Germany for International Duty

The former World Cup winner announced on Instagram this Thursday that he will rejoin Die Mannschaft, beginning with international friendlies in March.

“Guys, short and painless: I’ll be playing for Germany again in March,” the 34-year-old wrote.

He asked, “Why? I’m up for it since the national coach requested me, and I’m confident that a lot more can be accomplished with the team at the European Championships than most people realize!”

Kroos’s final international game for Germany came in Euro 2021, when his country was eliminated in the round of 16 after losing to England.

Despite his age, Toni Kroos has continued to play a key role in Real Madrid’s midfield and definitely has much more to offer.

It’s a significant boost for Germany, which hasn’t been stable since exiting Euro 21.

Die Mannschaft failed to go beyond the group stages of the Qatar World Cup under Hansi Flick, and they continued to lose friendlies against teams they were supposed to beat.

Under Julian Nagelsmann’s leadership, Germany is approaching a home tournament with anxiety rather than optimism.

It’s apparent that Nagelsmann will rely on expertise heading into this event. He is only supposed to stay in charge for the duration of the tournament, so giving young players a chance isn’t top of his priority list.

While it speaks a lot about the state of forthcoming German talent, it’s a significant boost to their chances at the Euros this summer.
