Gregor Kobel pens new contract at Borussia Dortmund

According to Sport Bild, Borussia Dortmund has extended goalkeeper Gregor Kobel’s contract until 2028.

When Gregor Kobel signs his contract, he will become one of the club’s top earners.

Sebastian Kehl, Sporting Director, was pressing for an extension beyond his present deal, which would have expired in 2026.

Kobel will now make roughly €10 million per year, which is more than treble his prior pay of €3.5 million.

Despite interest and attempts from English Premier League clubs, the Swiss international decided to stay.

There are offers available. Chelsea approached Kobel with a €20 million annual pay offer, but he turned it down and remained loyal to Dortmund.

Kobel has been an outstanding player since joining Dortmund in the summer of 2021. He was named vice-captain at the start of the current season.

He has rapidly become a fan favorite and has been rewarded for his outstanding performances, particularly last night’s Champions League match against AC Milan, in which he made some amazing saves to win Dortmund a point.

A long-term contract means that top clubs throughout Europe will have to spend a significant amount to get him away from Borussia Dortmund in the future.
