Hannibal Mejbri has joined Sevilla on loan from Manchester United, the club announced.
After making 21 starts and 17 substitute appearances in the Championship for Birmingham City in 2022-23, Erik ten Hag kept the 20-year-old in the United senior ranks this summer.
Despite the Dutchman’s extensive midfield options, the Tunisian international is likely to remain on the fringes.
Hannibal has made four starts and eight substitute appearances across all competitions, with his most recent appearance in the first XI coming on November 1 against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup.
The decision has since been made to send the youngster back out on loan in order to secure more first-team football for the remainder of the season.
Hannibal Mejbri moves to Spain on Loan
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United have included a number of clauses in the agreement to protect themselves if Hannibal excels in Spain.
Sevilla are said to have the option of signing Hannibal for €20 million (£17.21 million) this summer, though that clause is not mandatory.
Meanwhile, if that option is activated, United will have two years to decide whether to activate a €35 million (£30.12 million) clause to re-sign Hannibal.
A sell-on fee has also been added in case Hannibal decides to move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium full-time.
Sevilla has signed Hannibal in the hopes that he will help kick-start a season that has already seen them eliminated from the Champions League.
Quique Sanchez Flores is the latest Sevilla manager, tasked with bringing Los Nervionenses up from 17th place in the La Liga standings.
Hannibal is ineligible to play in the Copa del Rey round of 16 match against Getafe on Tuesday night.
However, he is expected to be considered for the January 21 match against leaders Girona.
