Following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal, former Roma midfielder Daniele de Rossi is set to take over as the club’s interim manager.

The Portuguese manager was fired earlier today, as they remained ninth in the table following the loss to Milan. They also lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia and were eliminated from the competition.

Sky Italia has reported on De Rossi’s potential move to Roma, with the midfielder linked. He is expected to be the club’s next manager and will sign a contract with the Giallorossi later today. Only the agreement’s final details are currently missing.

The Italian will sign a contract until the end of the season, but there is an option to extend De Rossi’s stay if certain conditions are met this season.

De Rossi’s most recent managerial position was with SPAL, where he was fired after only a few months. However, he served as a member of Roberto Mancini’s staff while they were both on the Italian national team.

De Rossi’s first managerial position came with Serie B club SPAL in the 2022-23 season, but he was fired after only 17 games, having managed only three victories.

Despite the 40-year-old’s forgettable first stint in management, Roma owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin believe his “unbreakable bond” with the club will contribute to a successful second half of the season.

“We are happy to be able to hand over the managerial role of AS Roma to Daniele De Rossi, as we feel that the leadership and ambition that have always defined him can prove decisive in achieving the team’s objectives until the end of the season,” the brothers said in a statement.
