Hugo Llors: Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to terminate the French goalkeeper’s contract.
The 36-year-old has less than a year left on his present contract. However, he has made it obvious that he wants to move on after 11 years in North London.
Lloris, who has lost his captaincy at Tottenham, has been strongly linked to a move to Lazio. But negotiations stalled because the Frenchman was unwilling to share the spotlight with current number one Ivan Provedel.
Lloris has reportedly turned down a move to Saudi Arabia and has been encouraged to join his old club Nice.
Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals Chelsea were also said to be interested in the veteran shot-stopper, but instead signed Djordje Petrovic to provide backup for fellow new recruit Robert Sanchez.
Lloris is currently looking for a new club and is not in the plans of new Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou, who is happy with new first-choice Guglielmo Vicario and backup Fraser Forster in goal.
To accelerate Lloris’ search for a new team, Football Insider reports that Tottenham may sever his £100,000 per week deal.
Although Lloris has already turned down offers from Saudi Arabia, a move to the Middle East is still a possibility because their transfer window does not close until Thursday.
Hugo Lloris’ illustrious Tottenham career comes to an untimely end
Lloris might possibly receive offers from Turkish Super Lig clubs, given their transfer window does not close until September 15.
Since joining Tottenham from Nice in 2012, Lloris has made 447 appearances in all competitions, maintaining 151 clean sheets.
Last season, the goalkeeper made 25 Premier League starts. However, he was unable to help Spurs qualify for European competition, with his last appearance coming in a crushing 6-1 away defeat to Newcastle United in April.
The team reached the EFL Cup final in 2014–15 and the Champions League final in 2018–19. Nevertheless, Lloris hasn’t actually won a title with Spurs despite coming close.
In Lloris’ absence, Vicario has kept two clean sheets in four Premier League starts this year. Postecoglou’s team is second in the standings with 10 points, two points behind league leaders Manchester City.
