India announces the squad for the Men's T20 World Cup 2024

India has announced its 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma will lead India’s pursuit for long-awaited glory, according to the BCCI’s announcement of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 roster.

Prior to the announcement, there was much speculation about the wicketkeeper pick, with many candidates fighting for the position. Finally, India has entrusted the gloves to Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.

Pant will return to international cricket for the first time since a near-fatal accident in December 2022, which sidelined him for over a year.

Shivan Dube’s IPL form made it difficult for him to be left out, as he retained his position in the team following his performance in the previous T20I series against Afghanistan.

The 30-year old has been brilliant form for the Chennai Super Kings, scoring 350 runs in nine matches with an amazing strike rate of 172.31.

India’s spin-heavy bowling squad will include Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal while while Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace battery alongside Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj,  and vice-captain Hardik Pandya.

There were no shocks in the batter selection, with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav all  anticipated to shore up the top order alongside captain Rohit.

Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh are only included in the reserve squad, along with pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.

KL Rahul, who played in India’s last two T20 World Cup campaigns (2021 and 2022), is notably absent from India’s squad.
