Jack Grealish Injury Update

Jack Grealish goes off injured in Copenhagen

Jack Grealish’s injury in the first half of Manchester City’s Champions League last-16 match against FC Copenhagen dealt a blow.

The winger left on 21 minutes with what appeared to be a leg muscle complaint, and was replaced by Jeremy Doku. The 28-year-old, who was starting his sixth consecutive European game, missed three City games in September due to a hamstring issue.

Ally McCoist, speaking on commentary for TNT Sports, thought Pep Guardiola’s decision to pull Grealish off was correct given the apparent extent of the injury. “There is absolutely no doubt about that, if he does feel anything at all he would be crazy, as much as he will want to continue,” he went on to say.

Pep Guardiola announced that Josko Gvardiol will be out for a while. Pep also stated that Jack Grealish had a muscle injury during Manchester City’s victory against Copenhagen.

City moved closer to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Denmark in the first leg of their last-16 contest.

Magnus Mattsson equalized with a careless pass from Ederson, but Kevin De Bruyne put City up early. However, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden made sure City was in complete control going into the second leg in Manchester the following month.

Grealish was dismissed after collapsing and gesturing to the bench in less than twenty minutes.

“Something muscular, I think,” Guardiola told TNT Sports after the game.

“A little bit groin, I don’t know exactly. It’s a shame because these types of games require this type of velocity. Bernardo and Jack provide excellent control, allowing us to make an extra pass at the appropriate time to attack.

“In the previous few days, the training sessions went significantly better. It was a shame.

A poor challenge late in the game led to Bernardo Silva’s replacement. Guardiola said that the Portuguese star had a “big knock” to his ankle, but it is unclear whether this is a serious injury.

In the lead-up to their journey to Copenhagen, City had a fully-fit squad, but Gvardiol was not included because he had been left out totally.

Guardiola disclosed that the defender has sustained an ankle ligament damage and will miss two to three weeks as a result.
