Newcastle United were also interested in acquiring James Maddison, who had only a year remaining on his Leicester contract, but Tottenham are currently in the lead; Leicester were hesitant to trade Maddison in January, but have opted to cash in following their relegation to the Championship.

James Maddison: Tottenham and Leicester have reached a deal worth around £40 million

Maddison, who had only one year remaining on his Leicester contract, became a target for Newcastle. But the club has since shifted its attention to AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

Tottenham’s midfield options must be strengthened ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s first season in command.

Spurs have already spent £17.2 million on goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario this summer, while Dejan Kulusevski’s loan transfer from Juventus has been extended.

Despite Leicester’s relegation, Maddison’s reputation remains unblemished. Despite the team having a terrible season, he has record of 10 goals and nine assists in Premier League games alone.

It was a continuation of his stellar effort at the King Power Stadium. He has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top offensive midfielders over the course of five seasons.

Statistics show that he is a member of the top. Only two players – Kevin De Bruyne and Trent Alexander-Arnold – have generated more opportunities in the Premier League since his arrival from Norwich in 2018, while only three – Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, and Heung Min-Son – have had more shots on goal.

James Maddison is also in the top eight in terms of assists and major opportunities created. Only 18 players have scored more goals in that time period, with 43.

The figures add up to demonstrate why he was in such great demand.

Good Luck James Maddison!
