Jason Roy is hired by KKR for Rs. 2.8 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders signed England batter Jason Roy as a replacement players Shreyas Iyer and Shakib Al Hasan. Iyer and Shakib both are already out of the tournament. The Knight Riders acquire Roy for INR 2.8 crore (approximately USD 341,000). His pre-season auction price was INR 1.5 crore (USD 183,000 approx.).

Most English players are only allowed to sign replacement contracts in the IPL before a March 1 deadline to help their counties plan for the early months of the County Championship season. However, players with ECB central contracts or incremental deals are eligible to sign after that date. Roy lost his central contract in October, but he still has an incremental deal.

Roy last participated in the IPL in 2021 after choosing to forgo his participation last year and taking an indefinite break from cricket. Gujarat Titans bought him at the auction. He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021. He has record of 150 runs from five games with an average of 30 and a strike rate of 123.96.

The England Batsman had chosen to forego participating in the IPL in 2020 while playing for the Delhi Capitals due to personal reasons.

Kolkata Knight Riders have only participated in one match so far, which they lost to Punjab Kings in Mohali by a score of 7 runs (DLS method). On Thursday, they face Royal Challengers Bangalore at their home field, Eden Gardens, in their second game.

They lost Iyer to surgery-required lower back issues, and Shakib made the decision not to play this season for personal reasons.

Jason Roy’s Career Stats

Jason made his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions in the 2017 edition. Roy last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 season.

In five games in 2021, Roy scored 150 runs, including a half-century.

The 32-year-old has participated in 64 T20 Internationals for England and has scored 1,522 runs at a strike rate of 137.61 with eight fifty-plus scores.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, an Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman who started their match against Punjab Kings and tallied 22 points from 16 balls, is likely to going to get the replacement by Roy. N Jagadeesan is already donning the gloves for the purple brigade.
