Joao Cancelo to join FC Barcelona

According to Romano, the financially constrained team want to use some of the proceeds from the sale of the French forward, Ousmane Dembele, to buy Cancelo.

The forward is likely to leave the Nou Camp for Paris Saint-Germain in a transaction worth £43 million.

Cancelo has long been the target of Barcelona. Barca is interested in signing the defender on a season-long loan, according to a May report from Mail Sport.

The club were believed to be in talks to sign the defender yesterday, with Guardiola denying claims from his former colleague, Xavi, that he had blocked a move to the Spanish giants back in January.

Cancelo joined Manchester City in 2019 for £27.4 million. He went on to play 21 times for Bayern in all competitions. There he made good appearances of helping Thomas Tuchel’s team win the Bundesliga title in the season’s final game.

He insisted after leaving City that his unexpected move to the Bundesliga was unrelated to his friendship with Guardiola.
