Joao Felix, a new Chelsea debut forward was awful since he received a straight red card for a careless lunge.

After lunging towards Fulham’s Kenny Tete during the match on Thursday night, Chelsea’s new loan player was kicked out.

After the Blues paid Atletico Madrid a £9 million fee, Felix landed at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday. The status is on a loan deal that will last through the end of the season.

Graham Potter started him right away for the Thursday night west London derby between the Blues and Fulham.

Before rashly charging in on Tete after a poor touch, Felix had been lively and impressive during the match.

David Coote had little reluctance in ejecting the Portuguese forward after the Portuguese forward struck the Fulham defender above the shin.

‘He has lunged in, there is no intention of course. But he has gone in too high,’ said former Premier League referee Peter Walton. It’s the best decision for me. He has put the opposition in jeopardy.’

‘There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that it was a red card,’ said Lucy Ward, a former Leeds United player. He followed through, and there was no indication that he was going to bend his leg. It was reckless.’

Felix’s red card and the explanation for seniors

Peter Crouch sympathized with the forward but agreed it had to be a red card.

He said, ‘we’ve all been there, you have a touch and it just gets away from you.’ He also added, ‘you want to make amends. He gets a red card for being reckless and out of control.’

Jody Morris, an ex-Chelsea coach, agreed. ‘Felix can’t have any complaints,’. He again added, ‘It’s such a shame because he’s been excellent in this game.’

Jamie Carragher agreed with Morris and praised Felix’s performance in his Premier League debut.

‘Joao Felix and Chelsea can’t complain about the red card. But up until that point, he’d been the best player on the pitch!’ he tweeted.

‘Felix was brilliant, I saw enough in 45 minutes to see he will be a good signing,’ Joe Cole said. Then he had a mental breakdown.’

Felix will now be suspended for three games following his dismissal for violent conduct.

His absence adds to Potter’s plethora of unavailable players, with Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling among those missing from Chelsea’s squad for the match against Fulham.

Felix’s red card in the 58th minute came just minutes after the impressive Denis Zakaria limped off with a suspected thigh injury.
