Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton has been charged with drink-driving. He is also scheduled to appear in court at the end of January.
The Brazilian was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, according to Northumbria Police.
“Officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of New-Castle shortly before 1.20am today (Thursday) and arrested the occupant,” a Northumbria Police spokesperson said.
“Joelinton Cassio has since been charged with driving while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit.
“He is scheduled to appear before New-Castle magistrates on January 26.”
The 26-year-old has been a key member of Eddie Howe’s squad this season, making 21 appearances across all competitions.
Newcastle United is aware of the incident but has made no comment.
