The 20-year-old has yet to make his first-team debut for the Red Devils, but he has appeared for them four times this season, including twice in the Champions League.

Hugill was an unused substitute in the FA Cup against Wigan Athletic on Monday evening, and it is believed that he impressed Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag during training sessions.

The forward is widely expected to leave Old Trafford on loan before the end of the January transfer window, but he has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him at the club until June 2026, with the option of an additional year.

“Manchester United have signed Joe Hugill to a new contract.” “The striker has agreed new terms that will run until 2026, with the option of an additional year,” the club’s official website stated.

“He has developed well this season and trained regularly with the first team, while being on the bench four times, including for Monday night’s Emirates FA Cup third-round victory at Wigan Athletic.”

Hugill has been in good form in Premier League 2 this season, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in nine appearances, while also scoring once in three EFL Trophy appearances.

During his youth career, the forward played for Newcastle United and Sunderland before joining Manchester United in 2020.

The Red Devils are thought to have beaten Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to his signature. He spent last season on loan at Altrincham, scoring once in seven appearances.

Joe Hugill is staying with the Red Devils

According to the Manchester Evening News, a loan exit is nearing completion, with Manchester United eager for him to gain more senior experience at this stage of his career.

The Red Devils have been linked with forward additions this month, with Ten Hag reportedly desperate for reinforcements in the final third of the field.

However, Anthony Martial is said to have stated that he will not be leaving in January, preferring to wait until the end of the season to leave on a free transfer.

Man United are also working to a tight budget due to Financial Fair Play, which means that the majority of their business in the winter will be outgoings, with Jadon Sancho close to completing a loan switch to Borussia Dortmund and Hannibal Mejbri heavily linked with both Sevilla and Everton.
